I have installed XP Pro. I have a CD R/W and DVD R combo internal drive and
a HP external dvd300e USB drive both installed. I can read from either
drive. I can write to the HP DVD drive but when I try to write CD format
to either of the drives it keep telling me to "insert a blank or appendable
disc." I am using new discs and have tried several of them with the same
results. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Using Sonic Record Now and the software that came with the DVD drive,
Veritas Record Now. Have tried both of them with no results.

Shot in the dark but have you tried rebooting the machine after recording to
a DVD but prior to trying to record to a CD?

I have seen it happen where, for some darn reason, the software 'thinks'
you're trying to use DVD medium again and doesn't recognize it is a CD.

Shouldn't happen that way but it has been known to happen.

Unplug the external dvd r and try to record on your internal cd r/w using
the software that came with it. If this fails try downloading a trial
version of Nero ultra 6.0.

Thanks, -nos1eep, that's one I haven't tried. I'll give it a shot.
