I have been unsuccessful in getting files copied to the
CDR. I have used the windows xp documentation step by
step to no avail. It goes thru some processing and
basically makes the disc unusable. Any ideas as to what I
am doing wrong?
It's a relatively simple matter, using the built-in XP burner.
First, be certain that it is configured correctly: Right-click the CD
drive icon and choose PROPERTIES. Examine the settings under each
tab...especially the RECORDING tab. Verify that recording is enabled.
To record, drag a file or files to the CD drive letter. A pop-up should
appear indicating that there are files to be written to the CD. Click on
it, and follow instructions.
Be aware that a DATA disc can be appended with more data files at a later
date, though this is not particularly efficient for conserving disk space.
AUDIO (CDA) files must be written in one session, because the disk will be
closed (and unwritable) thereafter. So it is wise to record many audio
files (up to the disk's capacity) in that one session - to avoid wasting
space.
Other CD burning software (costs $$) may not have this restriction, and
also allow the CD to be utilized as a large "floppy".
