Hi
Is there any truth to the statement that there is more
stability using CD-Rs for backup than CD-RWs? If one uses
CD-R for backup how does one do incremental backups? Are
there any brands that are superior than others, e.g.,
Office Depot? Thanks

Hi,

There is no truth whatsoever in that statement. You can't use CDR's for
incremental backups, as you cannot change what is already written. To do it
with CDRW's, you need will need third-party packet writing software
installed, the WinXP native burning program does not support it.

Hi Rick
Would you comment on the quality aspect of the different
brands; are the house brands, e.g., Office Depot, just as
good as the name brands? Which of the subject do you
prefer for backup?
Thanks for all your help.

Overtime CD-R/W disks will become flaky as data is being continually written
and re-written to the media.

Hi,

I've personally not noticed any major differences, and generally buy what's
on sale provided the burn speed rating is sufficient. You might like this
