My Pacific Digital drive is no longer recognized in Win2K
Pro. I've checked and rechecked the connections, but
Windows no longer recognizes it. The only thing that
changed is the removal of another CD-Rom drive from the
PC. It uses the standard CD driver in Windows, and the
burner software from Ahead-Nero. Any ideas on what I can
do? I do see the drive under administrative tools,Computer
Management,Removable Storage, Physical Locations, but it
has a red X next to it, and I can't seem to get anything
to work related to it.

All help is much appreciated!

Best regards,
Nick Costanza

Ann,

Thanks, I'll try that. One other concern I had was my
jumper settings. It's an IDE contoller and drive, and I
did not change my jumper which is set for slave after
moving the other drive. Since the HD is the master, I'm
assuming that's correct. The power light does come up when
I boot, but I'm not sure how to check the CMOS on this
particular machine. It's an IBM Netvista A21. Any other
thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks again,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Are you by any chance running Norton Internet Security 2004?

If you are then that's the problem - and as yet I have not been able to find
a solution.

Ann,

My 2003 expired last month. I don't have 2004 yet. I went
out and bought another drive, installed it, and both are
working now. My IBM seems to want 2 cd drives before it'll
let 1 work in WIN2K Pro. It really sounds like a jumper
problem, but having actually tried all three settings, I
know it wasn't that. Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Nick
