CD R/RW Replacement Imapi problems

I have been having major problems with my cd burning. I have about decided
it is/was a defective drive. I had a Samsung SW-212B CD/R. I found a good
deal on a much slower model of samsung CD /R which is a SW
408B. It still is not working as it did originally when I first started
using it. I was browsing in setup logs and found the following text::"""";
((( ))) denotes application

these devices require special per-device settings to work
; with IMAPI to burn CDs properly

imapi_noopc_install,IDE\CdRomPHILIPS_PCRW804_________________________

I don't actually see any settings listed special or otherwise. My question
is are these settings automatic on plug and play? The device was recognized
by the system as SW-408B CD/R. If not where could i obtain these settings
with detailed instructions on implementation of said?

Have you tried going to the manufacturer's website and downloaded the latest firmware
and drivers?
