CD R-RW not displayed in MY COMPUTER

I have a DVD player and a seperate CD Burner. however in
MY COMPUTER D: shows up with an ICON which Says DVD but E:
shows up with an icon which says CD instead of saying CD-
R/RW or the like. How do I get XP to recognise the CD
burner as a burner not just a player and display the ICON
accordingly. I did't do anything for it to recognise the
DVD player. Hope somebody can help
 
Colin, see if there's a firmware update at the manufacturer's web site.
Also, you can try removing and reinstalling the
cdrw drive. Do it from Device Manager. Winkey-Pause/Break key.

FWIW,I have two XP machines and other members of the family each have
one. On each of the machines, the CD Burners are listed in My Computer
simply as CD's.
