CD Player can never find album info on the net.

Windows' CD Player can never download track list for any of my CDs. It can
never find any album database on the internet. Is there a setting that needs
to be specified or something? Or do I need to download the album info with
another program?
I used to have Music Match on Win98 and that can always list the tracks.
They even go into the cdplayer.ini file that the Windows CDPlayer uses.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I take it CD Player is not offering you a prompt for whether or not you want
to download the artist and track information from the Internet?

Make sure 'Enable Internet album information download' is checked on the
Album Options tab under Options-Preferences.

CD Player doesn't do that sort of thing, you will need something like
Windows Media Player or MusicMatch to do that.

That is enabled and it does prompt me if I want to download the track info
but it then shows a message that it can't find the album info on the
internet. It never does. Would I have to use another utility for that?

I had WMP 9 but it was just too loaded with junk and the program is just too
slow to load for simple file playback. So I uninstalled that and reinstated
WMP6.
Would I be able to see the track info in the CDPlayer once Win Media Player
downloads that info? If so, then I guess that's what I have to do.

You're right. I just tried it with Alannis Morrisett's Jagged Little Pill,
and it failed to find the artist or track information.

The reason CD Player is not finding any information is the Primary Provider
is set to www.tunes.com, which is now run by CNET and returns no data. Your
alternative is to download a cdplayer.ini file or find another artist
information provider for CD Player.

Try the "3rd Way" from threeTIX and hand-edit the registry settings:

I just downloaded the .reg file for Windows 2000 and used regedit to
manually make the changes for Provider0000, Provider0001, and Provider0002
and everything is now working as expected. I skipped the part where it
wants to edit Current User registry hive.

I started CD Player and was prompted to lookup artist information. I
clicked OK and Voila! It displayed correctly!

I hope you have the same success.

Thanks so much. I'll give it a try.
