CD or DVD is not recognized in Windows

On my HP Pavillion a330n the DVD writer 300C HP, I get message(CD or DVD is
not recognized in Windows, there is no disk in the recorder). Sometimed it
records data on CD or DVD, sometimes it reads. Most times- "there is no disk
in the recorder". Also insert-"recordable disk".
I had installed- Roxio Creator 8, which never worked. I have now removed
Roxio, even then the CD/DVD writer is not recognised. Please help. Thanks.

Looks like a dying CD/DVD drive.

First try a cleaner CD which can be purchased from any store such as CompUSA
or BestBuy.
Next open the case and make sure all connections are secure and proper.
