Please Help.. For some reason neither my cd OR my dvd drives were not being

shooter, they won't play at all.. ANYONE??

Thank you Alan, but being a little dumb about all of this... Do I go to
start/run then type all of the rest of the stuff?? I can't believe I am so
stupid about this stuff..

Knowing little more than you, go to Start, select Run, and then type
"Regedit" (without the quotes). This takes you into registry, where you
look for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACH..." (again w/o quotes). From here, I always have
to "feel" (WITH the quotes) my way along as I delete values as directed.
Again, w/my limited knowledge, I would begin all this by first creating a
new Restore Point--hoping to be able to backtrack if my deleting causes
problems. HTH, and I only answered in case you were left unanswered
elsewhere. s

Thank you sd.. I will try that later when I have lots of time to take my
time..lol OK.. But now.. how do I create a restore point.. sorry.. I really
am pretty computer illiterate..

Thanx to all who helped me.. now to see if I have the nerve to do it??

Didn't work for me. The system still sees the drives (a DVD-ROM and
and CD-RW) but cannot see any disk loaded in either.

I'm beginning to suspect a microsoft update that installed
automatically about 2 weeks ago at a shutdown. That seems to be about
the time that iTunes stopped being able to find CDs and that my CD
writing software stopped being able to find blank CDs in either drive.
