CD not working (no D:\ drive)

I have not been able to get the CD in the laptop to work.
When I check devices this is what I get for the CD device:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot
load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I have tried everything I know unsuccessfully. Can anyone
help??
