Maybe there should be a cd/dvd media test for the downloaded images so that
there is no disc errors. Fedora has a disc check for every release of their
os...

There usually is a MD5 or SHA1 hash checksum is
posted for the downloads. Microsoft promised
about 2 years ago they would post the sums for
all downloads and it seems they are slowly
getting around to doing it.

There were sums posted for the CPP Beta2, RC1
(5600), and RC1 (5728).

Microsoft tells you how to do this file download check on the download page.

Hint: It has to do with MD5 checksums.

If you actually want to check the burned DVD, look to burner software for
possible solutions.

I have never used that checksum think before but it doesnt work for me either
i calculated the numbers and they dont match either so what does that mean
that the download wasnt correct??? I have no clue why this is such a hastle???

If the check sum doesn't match, you have a bad download. You will never be
able to burn the DVD with such a download.

So this might take me a couple of downloads in order to get it right then???
That doesnt make sense but ok ill keep downloading until either i get fed up
or they match thanks!!!

Make sure you have the correct MD5 signature. There are two. One is for 32
bit O/S, the other is for the 64 bit O/S.

Yeah tried that the numbers arent matching, is it possible that im not using
the right program to check the numbers im using acchash???

Well I Got Past The Error That I Was Having But The Checksum Numbers Didnt
Match Still... I Don't Understand It But Hopefully I Get A Nice Clean
Install!!!

Create MD5 checksum with IsoBuster (http://www.isobuster.com). The process is
as following:

Select
File
Open Image File
Select rhe file:
vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso

Select:
File
DVD
MD5 Checksum File
Create MD5 Checksum
For this image file

Resulting MD5 text file looks like

# MD5 checksum generated by IsoBuster 1.9.1.1 (http://www.isobuster.com)

22486e815a38feffd9667317dfeec55a
*vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso

Because, I did not write down the Microsoft's MD5 from the download page, I
can’t say is this same or not. Anyway, burning and istallalling went okay, so
this was valid image.

I must be doing something wrong either that or this whole checksum thing
doesnt make any sense to me for starters I have downloaded and installed
vista now, however the checksum still hasnt matched for me... I have used
three different programs and what I dont understand is how come I get a
different md5 number when they do the calcuations on the file??? I even tried
the isobuster thing that Peca has told me to do with the image I installed on
my computer and it still doesnt match the number that mircosoft put out
there... And I download the 32 bit one and checked it with the 32 bit line of
the md5 checksum and no match... I have spoken to a couple of people about
checksums and they say that they dont care for them cause they dont help...
Im not the smartest person when it comes to computers but im not idiot
either...
