It seems like every new CD-RW or DVD-RW I buy can read the media extremely
fast when it is new; after a few months it seems to read extremely slow by
comparison.

Does anyone else have this problem and or does anyone know what is the
cause?

I am guessing that the motors wear out.

I would like to buy a CD/DVD-RW that doesnt do this, that stay fast as hell
forever; does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank You

Kevin

This could be an interesting thread ! The myriad makes and models of
CD/DVD r/rw drives I've used across the years vary of course in quality and
longetivity, and I've read a few articles explaining who makes them,
(there's only few manufacturers), and how lots of brand names are slapped
onto the "same" particular make and model etc. I think Plextor could be
the way to go - they're supposed to be very high quality drives - I wonder
if they "track-in" any faster than the plain-vanilla / branded models ?

regards, Richard
