| Not sure why it would be necessary, though, as a DVD burner does
everything.

Way back in the dark ages of DVD writers (13 months ago :-) ) when I
purchased my single format internal DVD +R/RW drive I paid $349.00 for it.
My theory on keeping both (the CDR drive was already in there) was that I
would continue to use the CDR drive for CDs and keep the vastly more
expensive DVD +R/RW for writing DVDs only thereby reducing the wear and
tear.

I'd have to agree at today's prices having both makes less sense. Good
point.

I have one of each on my HP,both are working fine. But as
Dev pointed out
(Yes, but you may be able to enable recording on only one
at a time)
Does anyone know of a work around for this?

Completely pointless now, though. I bought a Pioneer 107D (OEM) for £80 a
couple of weeks ago.

Yes get rid of the CD burner.

.
Why would I want to remove a piece of hardware from my
system that is working just fine over a fairly minor
inconvenience?
Yes the DVD burner will do both but I also have more than
one car too.
