I have read most of the previous posts in trying to get my "d" drive back but
nothing has helped. I presently have a Packard bell imedia and about 3 weeks
ago I installed itunes on my pc and a week later got the upgrade (itunes 7)
after installing i had a fee problems and my pc even hung and i had to
reboot. i then decided to take the software off completely. i didn't
realise though that it didn't uninstall completely and when I went to use my
cd/dvd drive last week I found that it didn't even exist anymore! I've
checked the Bios - it's not there, and gone to control panel and it's not
even listed in hardware devices. I've edited my registry as suggested; I've
uninstalled itunes, QuickTime and have removed most of the entries from the
registry.

i have used cdgone, the script link, tweak ui, and nothing seems to work. I
have checked the cables and everything is connected and secure. The light
fro the drive comes on, and it open and closes fine, it just isn't recognised
by windows.

Any help would be great!

*please forgive me, I have posted this question elsewhere, I'm just trying
to get as much help as possible*

If the CD drive is not recognized by the BIOS, all of these other issues re.
Windows, the registry, etc. are irrelevant, and are not going to solve the
problem. If the drive is connected to the secondary IDE controller, make
sure that the secondary IDE controller/ports are enabled in the BIOS. Is
so, there is a failure of the drive (most likely), the drive cable, or
motherboard IDE port.

With power off disconnect the CD/DVD drive cable, reboot to Windows, then
shut down Windows, turn power to PC off, reconnect the drive cable, then
re-boot to Windows and see if Windows identifies a new device.

After using cdgone did you reboot? The few times that I had to use this a
reboot was required.
