CD/DVD DRIVES NOT WORKING

Hi, for some strange reason my cd & dvd drives are not working, [nothing
happens when discs are inserted], i have followed the help wizard but the
problem is still there, i have viewed my error log and since mid april i
have a large catalog of repetetive errors, [i did have a virus in my/
attatched to java which mcafee deleted] not sure if this is relevent, my pc
is a phillips iQon. most grateful for any help. thanks.

Have you tried removing the drives in Device Manager and then rebooting so
that Windows has to reinstall the device(s)? This might work. A check of
Device Manager may prove helpful anyway, since a hardware problem would be
shown (theoretically) in there.

See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))


Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website

Hi Kevin, yes i performed the device manager but it did'nt show a problem, i
tried to 'roll back' , but couldn't, i then uninstalled & reebooted, but
nothing happens, according to the device manager there are no
errors/problems, im baffled.i will try some of jason's suggestions, thanks.

Jason Hi, how do i back up the file first? [advising me to back up before i
run the patch] thanks.
