CD/DVD drives in Vista

Hi -

Does anyone know if there would be any compatibility issues with the CD/DVD
drives on a new PC that comes with Vista, if I were to re-format and load XP?
I have a lot of games that aren't compatible with Vista, and all new
desktops I can find don't come with XP anymore?

They're standard drives and will work with XP.

I'd encourage you to leave Vista installed and dual-boot with XP. It's
only a matter of time before your games will work on Vista.

That's an interesting observation.
 
The drives are more likely to work with XP than Vista. Vista has a serious
problem with alot of drives, some people say is due to "digital
rights"/copying issues.

Make sure you research to see if there are XP drivers for all the hardware
for that computer. Check on the computer manufacturer's web site.
 
I too have a similiar problem with Disk Formating on my new Vista OS. My
system wants to format my CD and then locks up my system. Have tried
different Manufactured CD's with the same result. I have Roxio that seems to
work fine but a little busy. Like the way my old XP worked when burning
CD's.

Dell is telling me there are some compatibility issues with installed CD/DVD
drives and Vista.

Any ideas on how to fix this or am I stuck with Roxio 100% of the time?

Your issue has nothing to do with the OP's question. He asked about
compatibility if he went back to XP.

I reccomnend you post your question as a new thread rather than tacking on a
new question as a reply to someone else's thead.
 
This is a known issue I have Vista Home premium, but as I have always done I
just used System restore to go back as I have most of my important files on
an external hard drive. I have seen this problem for a long time but back it
the days of Windows 95 when Cd-writers were new, they was often a conflict
with 3 party software and the system and the cd-writer used go off, Bois saw
it but windows didn't.
But with Vista being new it is early days and It was thing started to go
wrong after I installed my writing software supplied with my DVD-Writer. It
seems to cause some problems with registry , and all I did was use a backup
of the registry to put things right, this maybe not work for all people. This
was just one way.
