MICHAEL CHRISTIAN

sometimes even after i eject a CD from my Gateway "multi CD/DVD" drive bay
the files are still listed in Windows Explorer and i can even click on 'em
to open
them. it's kind of ghostly because the CD isn't in the dive yet the files
are
still accessible. sure i can reboot and the problem usually goes away, but I
'd like
Explorer to report an empty drive when there's no CD in there. BTW, Gateway
replaced the drive yet this problem persists. any suggestions appreciated.
thanks!

Michael, try right clicking somewhere on the drive or in the folder, and click "refresh". The files are just cached. The reason this happens is because if the computer had to continuously refresh the CD contents, it would take up a lot of the computer's processing power, so instead, it takes a snapshot of the files on the CD and displays that in the folder.

I presume that if you put another CD in its stead, that it will refresh and display the new CD's contents?

Be well,
John
