I think I discovered an incompatibility with the NEC DV-5500a DVD-ROM drive
and Windows Vista Beta 2. Doing a clean installation from the bootable DVD,
the screen that comes up after clicking Install Now says something to the
effect of, "CD/DVD drive device driver not found. Please insert CD, DVD, USB
drive, etc that contains the driver files. It is safe to take the Vista DVD
out of the drive for this step." Since I have no driver files for this
drive, clicking OK just brings me back to this error dialog. There is no way
to cancel out of this loop.
Of course, it's gotten this far so we know the drive's fine.
Earlier CTP's sailed through this step without issue.
Replacing the drive with a newer one out of a different machine allowed me
to get through this step successfully.
Thanks.
