CD DV WHAT IS IT?

Gosh...this question will really reveal how unknowledgeable I really am! Here goes nothing... My dvd play has a logo on it that reads CD Digital Video. 1. Does that mean it can play a cd-r on which I recorded an avi file? If I burn an avi file onto a cd-r, will my dvd player play it? Or will I have to buy a dvd burner and a dvd-r then use a dvd authoring software. Is CD DV totally different than cd-r? I don't get it. I'm so clueless...my brain hurts. 2. Is there a way to burn my wmm movie (which I saved as dv-avi) onto a cd-r to get it to play on my dvd player? My 13 minute movie probably won't work, huh, because it 's 3.5 Gig and those silly cd-r's only hold 700 MB. But what if I saved a smaller dv-avi movie under 700 MB on a cd-r, will I be able to play it on my "cd dv" dvd player? Egads, I think my brain just exploded! Help!

Daniel,

Sounds like you're where we all start.

Seems like you want to burn a disc of some sort and play it on your DVD
Player/TV. You should be able to get about an hour of good quality video on
it. Here's a summary of what you would need to do, starting with Movie Maker
2.

Save you 1 hour or less movie to a DV-AVI file... or a high quality WMV
one.... the only two choices you have with MM2.

Feed the saved movie to your disc authoring and burning software..... Good,
Better, Best disc quality equates to VCD, SVCD, and a DVD.

VCDs and SVCDs are burned to regular CD discs.... DVDs are burned onto DVD
discs.

MM2 can't make any of these discs, so you need other software. The CD and
DVD sections of my website has some of the software choices that MM2 users
are using. Software usually comes with your CD or DVD burner... that's a
good starting point.

There are a number of intermediate things along the way, but it's good to
have an overall direction.

Don't worry about file sizes yet.... discs need MPEG files to play on a TV.
They are extremely compressed relative to DV-AVI files, so it'll fit......
if it's less than an hour.
