Since I installed a windows XP update 3 days ago, my CD drive does not write. Audio CDs are fine, but the drive does not recognize any data discs...message that there is no CD in the drive. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Charlotte,

Double-click "My Computer", right-click the CD drive, select properties. Go
to the recording tab and make sure the option to "enable recording on this
drive" is checked.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I upgraded my duaghter's HP notebook from me to xp home edition and lost the CD burner capability. She can still watch DVDs but no cd burner. If I find out how to fix I'll let you know. Please do the same. Thanks

Other Windows XP updates are also known to cause conflicts. Microsoft recommends uninstalling the culprit in other instances. Go to Add/Remove Software in Control Panels to remove the update. You can always reinstall it later.
