My CD drive stopped reading CD's. The drive was listed in Explorer.
I checked Device Manager and there was no conflict but the troubleshooter
suggested uninstalling the driver, rebooting and letting the system find it.
I did that, the system found the drive and installed the driver.
I went back into the Device Manager and it has a conflict. It is not
enabled with a Code 22. When I try to enable it I just get a message that
Windows was not able to enable the device.
I am using WinXP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
Then I came here to see if others were having a similar issue. I went to
the recommended KB article and followed the steps. My registry did not have
the settings so I used Method two. This did install the correct drive and
now there is no conflict but it still won't read any CD's.
I have run the Windows Update and there are no new updates for my operating
system.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Mary
