running xp with sp2 installed.

Hi L. Check the IDE and power cables to your DVD and CD are secure. Also
check in Device Manager that you`ve got no errors. You could also check
Admin Tools\Event Viewer to see if you have any errors showing there. best
wishes..J

tested all that all reports fine just unplugged the slave drive to see if
its a drive playing up or on the way out.

Hi L. the mouse sounds suspicious. You could have a bit of system
corruption. Think myself I`d run my safetyware. ie. Adaware, Spybot
etc.etc.. Clean out Cookies, Temp and Temp Internet files. The go to
Start\Run type in CMD, and in the DOS window type SFC /scannow
You will be asked for your winXPSP2 disk. Give it the disk and go make a cup
of tea. This will refresh all your windows files. ..J

no luck, i think its a problem with one of the drives
the cd writer i think as it only happened when both drives are installed,

strange that it takes both drives out if one fails, mite be a irq thing
going to run the computer with just the dvd drive in and see if that fails
if that happens then its new dvd drive time.

thanks for your help did not know about the windows file checkers thanks.

Good luck L.

been testing my drives and i think the problem is with CD clone program
don't know why but removed this and the problem seems to have gone away.

A CDROM drive will not read a DVD disk, it will just say "please
insert a disk in drive D"

But the other is possible, a DVD player will read a CDROM.
