cd drive/or dvd drive

I am confused! I had to re-install everything and I am having a hard time trying to get programs installed from my cd's. I uase "install new programs" press a button, 5the screen says "drive a" i say no, cd. I have already put the cd in to what I think is the cd drive, the cd hums and nothing else happens. So I enter "set up" or "install" or just ptress "return". NOTHING HAPPENS! wHAT AM i DOING WRONG?

why don't you just autorun the cds or install by accessing them directly?
