Vista Version 6.0
Build 6001:SP1
Dell

For about the last 2 weeks now when I insert a cd (game, music, etc) my
computer will not acknowledge that I even have insert the disc. The drive
will either just spin without stopping or never spin. I had Webroot
installed but uninstalled it last night because it would never let me update
it. I have looked for help on Microsoft and Dell but they just say
something to the effect that I have my media.. turned off. Followed the
instruction to no avail. I have no error messages.

Can anyone help with this?

Side note, when I went to send this message through Windows Mail I got a pop
up that said "This language is no longer available for spell checking.
please select another in the spelling options dialog."

TIA

Very Frustrated

Cindy,
If you tried several pieces of media in your CD drive and they all failed to
be identified, I suppose your CD drive is faulty. Buy another one and have
it replaced. Choose a DVD drive. I suppose that chances of finding a CD
drive are rather slim these days. And you better hurry. I suppose your CD
drive has IDE interface. This type of Interface is being replaced by SATA
interface and IDE will soon be hard to find.

Try doing a System Restore and see if that clears up your problem.

If problem persists then beg, borrow or buy an external USB CD/DVD drive and
see if that works. If it works then your internal CD drive is 1) either
faulty 2) or need the drivers to be reloaded. If your computer is a desktop
check for any loose cable connections, although I doubt that's the problem.

Good luck...

I tried a system restore back to 11/30/08. Didn't work. All drivers are
updated. Checked all cables also.

Check the cables to the drive and controller card. If a laptop, try removing
the drive and then reinserting it. Also try reinstalling the drivers.
