Right my CD drive has suddenly decided to take and extended holiday it seems,
Its classed as a HT-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4418B in device manager, came with the
dell machine already installed.

The problem I seem to have now is although the power light is on the drive
shows in device manager and "My computer" it even opens and close, Its not
doing anything else.

When I insert a CD the power light blinks twice then goes dead again, trying
to browse the CD gives me a error box of "Drive D:/ Empty " Even trying to
burn and CD is not working where it is just not recognizing the disk's are in
the drive.

I have tried everything so far, I have flashed it with the latest firmware,
I have made sure its master with a jumper, I have had it on cable select with
a jumper, I have even tried it without a jumper, no luck.

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Thanks for that but unfortunately it didnt help at all in fact that file for
restoring drives to exlporer caused a near fatal systems crash and i had to
do a system restore.

the thing is i can see the drive in my computer, in device manager and all
other places where a drive normally show.

the drive just doesnt seem to read any disk that i put in, i want to make
sure this isnt a driver/software issue before i go out and get a new drive.

aiden
