CD drive not reading data disc...

My CD Drive will not read any kind of game disc. The discs in question CAN be
read by my other computer, just not this one, so it's not just that the disc
is dirty or damaged. It will read music and movie discs though... Any ideas?
(I know I'm not a computer genius, so please, it may be something idiotic,
but I've looked around, I've done the trouble shooting and I'm stuck...)

What the maker of your CD-ROM, is it Samsung, HP, Panasonic...etc.
Try to scan for malwares to make sure your computer is clean:
for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
When it happened, did you install any new hardware or software?.
Do you have CD emulation software?.
HTH.

Hi Mrs McIn,
What you saw in the Device Manager, does there is Red X or Yellow
exclamation mark on the CD-ROM?.
What make is it and do you have another CD-ROM or is it just one?.
Try this:
Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run.

Right click My computer and select properties from the drop down list, on
the system properties click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager.
There Remove your CD-ROM and Reboot your computer, windows will detect your
CD-ROM and install it for you.
Does this Help?.
Any error message have been given or just will not start at all?.

Well, thank you SO much for all the help! It still is not working, so it
must be the drive itself. I am going to contact where I got the computer from
and see what they can do. I really appreciate all the help, and especially
all the patience! thanks again!!
