I have a creative CD5233E-N CD drive. Lately, I've been noticing that
it doesnt realize when I've changed disks. Example: I dug up an old
game that I hadnt played in awhile. I put in Disk1 to play, but the
game told me that I needed Disk2 inserted to play. I put in Disk2 and
it still said "please insert Disk2".

The computer thinks Disk1 is still in there. So much so that it still
displays the files, but if I double-click on a ReadMe, INF or someother
file thats readable in notpad, it comes up as gibberish. Telling the
computer who's boss (by rebooting) works. But I'd obviously rather not
have to do that every time I change disks. I have re-seated the power
and IDE cable on the drive.

Thoughts?

Do CDs autorun properly? If not, is Auto Insert Notification enabled (hang
on is that even present in XP? I'm a veteran 98SE user upgraded ages ago
but still sorta in '98 mode!)? Is your hardware faulty?

The drive itself works.
A quick google search on Auto Insert Notification brings up changes on
AutoPlay, so I suspect they are one in the same...

gotta Love Microsoft's "Update to the latest Service pack" This says
the behavior was fixed w/ SP1. I have SP2 patched and updated to the
hilt cept for some Audio drivers that dont work. I have DVD writer
that is not experiencing this issue that I am now using more and more.
Still searching and looking for answers. Thank you all. oh -
right-mouse clicking on the drive and Eject still holds the contents in
some sort of cache just like the eject button...

"time to bring out the big guns" :p

the last user friendly method i have up my selve, open the computer
mangment console (right clikc my computer > Manage) then expend
Removable Storage and selecte media, then selecte the media (notice
the diffrence, this is ejecting the disk by media ratehr then drive)
then select the media you wish to iject, and then clikc the eject
button (located on the top tool bar in the middle of the tool bar)

what worked for a short time (sorry for the delay) was to remove the CD
drive from Device manager and let it redirect. Something that may have
been an issue (tho nothing had changed) is that I have a USB based
Flash-memory reader that takes up 4 drive letters and that had started
acting up around the same time, but I was too soft to make the
conenction. I did a quick test as i wrote this, and its not working
again - but The MMC Eject works! But I think i'd have to contonously
use that. I have a second CD/DVD drive that I can use as well.

Thanks all
