CD Copy missing

I posted this on another news group, but have gotten very little
response. maybe some help from this news group?

Thanks for any help, jimbo
I have somehow lost the capability to copy files to a CD. WinXP SP2
has always been able to select files or folders, and copy to a CD. Now
there is no option to copy to CD. If I select a file to copy and then
try to access a CD to paste, I get an error message window with the
mnessage: "D:\ is not accessible Incorrect Function".
There is nothing wrong witrh the drive because I have used CD
burning software to burn iso images to CDs.
Any help will be appreciated, jimbo

Here is more detail on the problem. I select a file to copy and click
"copy". then I go to My Computer and click on the CD drive and click
paste. A window pops up with a message to insert a blank CD. I insert
a blank CD and then nothing happens. I know the drive is OK because if
I insert a recorded CD in the drive it shows the files. And I
regularly use this drive to burn CD iso files to CD. and I used the
same CD to sucessfully copy files to CD from another PC. (I am not
trying to re-use that CD.)

Heeeelp! What is going on? I still suspect that some functionality has
been inadvertantly turned off.

Jimbo, open MyComputer>rt click on your CD Burner Icon and select
Properties>Recording. Make sure that the box
Enable CD Recording on this Drive is checked. Then rt click
MyComputer>select Manage>Services & Applications>Services. Scroll down to
IMAPI CD Burning COM Service. Make sure it's not disabled. Manual or Auto is
Ok.

Thanks very much for the reply. MY Computer > CD Burner Drive >
Properties. NO RECORDING TAB. I guess something has been turned off or
disabled, but I have no idea what.

Thanks, jimbo

If you tried the two suggestions and none worked then go to Device
Manager>Dvd/Cdrom Drives>your drive. Rt click on it and choose uninstall.
Restart and let XP reinstall it. To get to Dev. Man. go to Control
Panel>System>Hardware>Dev Man.

I've never come across this problem but you might want to take
a look at these articles. They seem to be aimed at some of the

Thanks for the help! Problem solved by uninstalling the drive via
Device Manager, then re-booting and letting WinXP reinstall the drive.
