My cd writer seems to be working and it reads cd's but
when I try to burn or copy, it is not recognized. It asks
me to insert a cd-r or cd-rw into the drive but when I
insert one, it does not recognize it. What can I do. In
properties, my cd writer supposed to have a "recording"
tab but it's not there. Also in properties, it says "this
device is working properly". Please help.

there are two types of recordable cd media.. cd/r-rw & cd/r+ -rw+. be sure
that you bought the right disks

Hello Mario,

The fact that you are not seeing a "recording tab" might indicate that your
CD burning software is not pointing to the CD-RW drive.Just a thought, but
if you have a CD-ROM as well, the drive letters may be reversed. In that
case, check to see if there is a recording tab in the properties of the
other (CD-ROM) drive.

Hi

I have had the same problem for a while now. I have tried
a few things but to no avail, but they may help you. They
involve checking settings that must be correct and if not
set, will prevent a recording tab appearing. (In my case
however I am still missing another setting that no one
seems to be able to help me with.)
Anyway the first is to check the relevant registry key,
and the second the active services. I wont go into detail
here but if you search for my name and read all the
discussion over the past few weeks then you will find
details.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Henry

There is NO such thing as cd/r+ -rw+ , DVD's yes, CD's NO.
