I use Win XP Home SP2 on a Pentium 4 laptop with CD burner QSI DVD/CDRW
SBW-161. Recently, I've been unable to burns CDs with WinXP, Nero 5 or
CDBurnerXP Pro 3.
Problems related to WinXP are:
* when I put a new (empty) CD in the CD drive, Windows Explorer shows drive
F:, but clicking on the drive results in an error message "F:\ is not
accessible. Incorrect function." But other programs (eg, CDBurnerXP Pro 3)
can read the CD and confirm that it has no data on it and 700MB free space.
Why this message in XP?
* when I try to copy files (photo images) to a CD using XP, the same error
message appears. Why?
* about 2 years ago, I disabled the Win XP CD burn feature by setting
'Startup Type' as Disabled in Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services > IMAPI
CD burning. I've now reset it to Automatic, but still no the above errors
occur. If this is likely to be the problem, is there anything else that I
need to do to enable CD burning?
* a search of the MS KnowledgeBase brought up article 892346 that discusses
a CD burning error (for which a hotfix is available) that can occur "When
you set the NoViewOnDrive policy for the system drive". I don't know what
that means -- is it likely to be the cause of my problem and should I apply
the hotfix?
Very grateful for advice or help on any of these points.
