CD Burner trouble

The drive worked properly a while ago, so i know the
hardware and drivers are compatible.

In windows explorer, when i copy files and paste to the
writeable CD drive, and try to burn, windows refuses to
recognize a CD-R or CD-RW in the drive.

In windows media player, when i try to copy music to a CD,
media player cannot recognize any writeable devices.

However, third party programs such as CloneCD, Alcohol
120%, and FireBurner work fine with the drive.

I think it may have to do with the registry, but i am not sure.

This is driving me crazy, and any help at all would be
appreciated.

If you installed such third party software it is quite likely that the
inbuilt burning got turned off in the process. So check in My Computer
- right click the drive, Properties, recording page and make sure that
'Enable recording' is checked

The box was already checked, and i tried unchecking, apply,
recheck, ok, but it didnt work. :(
I noticed, however, that when there is no CD in the drive,
the label is CD-RW Drive, but when i put in a CD-RW, it
changes the label to CD drive.
