Hello all, I have a fairly new Media Center XP HP machine (bought in in
august) and just last week the CD/DVD burner stopped working. It's a
two optical-drive machine, and the DVD player still works.
Surprisingly, the DVD burner which stopped working can still read data!
It just can't recognize a blank disc: It says "insert blank disc."

I installed NERO about a month ago and used it to burn some ISOs, but
in my fit of panic uninstalled NERO thinking it might have some usage
issues, but that did not work. (Before I uninstalled NERO couldn't
recognize a disc either)

I hope it's not hardware, but I don't think so as the drive can still
play data. I've already done the net start imapiservice, and although
it says the service was not turned on and turned it on, the drive can
still not recognize blank CDs.

I also uninstalled and re-installed the driver.

It's a LightScribe DVD/CD-writer, with a number of HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA
4166-B.

Thanks for ANY help.

InCd?
I did not disable the XP CD wizard either.

I was using the Nero 7 Bloatware with all the unneccesary programs.

I made sure the box was checked in Properties>Recording.
It may be a DVD-RW drive, but I've never burned a DVD with it.

Thanks!
