I have a Presario 6000 at work that has both a dvd drive
and a cd burner installed. Each will read and work well
enough with XP, but when I try another cd writer program
(nero) I can only make a disk image since the program
can't find the cd burner. In the hardware listing in
device mamager both the cd burner and the dvd appear in
the category of "unknow devices" instead of disk drives.
The drivers listed seem OK and youo can use the drives so
long as you use xp, but it just isn't right, any ideas?

I noticed that too Steve. With Nero.

For some reason, I think earlier versions
of Nero did what you said (With Unknown
devices) in Device Manager. As soon as
I updated Nero to 6.0.0.23 the CDR and DVD
went back to normal (Under DVD/DCD-ROM
drives) in Device Manager.

At first I thought it was an update I had
installed for XP. BUT no, I dont think
it had anything to do with XP updates.

BOTH the DVD and burner worked fine
tho, even when they were unknown devices.

Try getting the latest version of Nero and install
it. See if that fixes the unknown device prob.
