I remember one time the burner of my friend's computer did not work? we went
to the shop where we bought it, they fixed the problem by checking DMA
somewhere, I mean they went to control panel and he click or check DMA, I do
not remember what he did, but I remember he said that because DMA?? MY
question, what is the relation between the DMA and the burner? The CD burner
was not burning CD?? thanks

It probably would burn but not as efficient as when DMA is activated.
DMA, or direct memory access, allows the access of memory without
involving CPU.

and you can see if DMA is selected for whatever ide channel you have
your cd burner connected to by right-clicking "mycomputer" then
selecting properties/hardware/device manager then right clicking either
primary or secondary ide controller/advanced

If you're using Windows XP, you should know that XP will set
automatically the transfer mode to PIO mode if your device keep
encountering errors.

For details please go to microsoft.com to find out.
