CD and DVD Drives No Longer Recognized by XP

For some reason, I can not access my CD or DVD drives. Control Panel has
the warning icon next to them. Uninstall or rollback don't work. Add New
Hardware says the driver file is corrupted (Code 39). Of course, since XP
doesn't recognize the CD or DVD drives, I can't expand them from the CD.

Curiously, the Recovery Module recognizes and reads both drives from the
command prompt.

I think I may have trashed something in the Registry but don't know how to
restore the damaged parts of it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get
my computer back up and running?

Thanks!!!

Please see my web page at:

See what's new!

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website

- Uninstall the devices
- Install them from the files on the disk ( w/ HAVE DISK )
- You can copy them from the recovery console to a floppy
- Remember not to let windows detect proper drivers
- You point to the files on your floppy
