CD and DVD drivers not working, "missing"

I have a Windows X/P system, IBM ThinkVision. My CD and DVD are noted on the Device Manager with explanation point warnings. Both drivers are not reading and data. How do I reinstall the drivers if I can't use the installation CD? Step by step, please, I'm a novice. Thanks.
 
go into the device manager, open up the properties (double click the device name) then driver tab, install driver, and tell it to search microsoft database
