My wife installed unknown Windows update, probably Service Pack 2, and now
can't get to Windows. I've been avoiding that upgrade for this very reason.
Tried Use Last known version and nothing happens, returns to same screen.
Not technically proficient so take it easy with directions. Thanks.

What is the content of this "same screen" that it returns to? That
may be a clue as to the underlying cause of the problems.

Screen reads "Appologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start
successfully, etc. Then choices for start-up include: Safe Mode, safe Mode
with Networking, safe mode with command prompt or Last known good
configuration, or start windows normally. None work, some display a page
with lines talking about system 32. I then shut the machine down and go
through the same routine again. If I choose "last known configuration" or
"start windows normally", the loop continues and comes back to the screen
described. Thanks.

That is probably the information that is needed in order to diagnose
the cause of your problem.

Please post the verbatim content of this message.

Good luck
