"Catch Up" vs. "Mark All Read"

What exactly does catch up option do in windows mail?

What's the difference when compared to obvious mark all read option?

Catch Up will mark all messages that have not had the headers downloaded,
set as though they had been downloaded and will not be downloaded.

If there were possibly messages you wanted to download and read, don't use
catch up as you'll have to reset the newsgroup and re-read all headers to
get them back.

Mark all read will mark all messages selected as read. In the case of
exiting a newsgroup and having it mark all unread messages as read, it's
pretty well self explanatory.

Mark all read will of course allow you to go back and re-read or read
messages as the headers are still on your computer.

Catch Up is perfect for situations in which you have just subscribed to a
newsgroup that has 10,000 recent messages and you don't want to download all
10,000 headers.

I would like to download all headers in say a group of pictures or whatever
and find the ones which I like. Is there a way to download more then 300 at a
time, I'd like to download the entire group then browse them as I wish.

Thanks

Did you try looking for that option? It's fairly obvious.
Go to Tools, Options, Read, in the News section uncheck the box for
"Get 300 headers at a time."
