catch-22

Can anyone help me out with this catch-22?

I have a copy of Powerpoint 97 that came preinstalled on
my old computer. Micrsoft says I am eligible to purchase
the upgrade version of Powerpoint 2002. I want to put the
upgrade on my new laptop but I understand you have to have
PPT 97 on the computer to install the upgrade.

So the question is - how do I move the copy of PPT 97 from
my old computer to my new one i.e. what executables, dll's
etc need to be on the new machine in order to install
Powerpoint 2002? Thanks in advance if anyone can help
with this.

Hi Ron,

I take it you did not find my earlier answer humorous, but as both Sonia and
I said, the answer is usually no. Check the EULA from the help menu of PP97
on your desktop. I am fairly sure that it will tell you that it is for
pre-installed computer only. You are not authorized to install it on your
laptop, even if it is for upgrade purposes. If you want to upgrade your
desktop PowerPoint, then great, go for it. If you want to install
PowerPoint on your laptop, then you can not use the desktop's software.
Clear?

Now, you have two options:
1) Buy the full stand alone version of PowerPoint
2) Follow our advice

Wouldn't matter if you moved all the files, the update requires the orginal
CD be inserted.

Someone needs to tell Microsoft Sales that a CD is
needed. I was very clear with the salesperson that the
porgram was preinstalled on another computer and I had no
CD. Anyway thanks for the tip re: Ebay. I'll give that a
try.
