"Catastrophic Failure"

Am using XP home over W98(1st ed
I've used it for about three years and everything OK, except that when in "My Computer" if I click o
any of the "Other" devices, Digital camera says "not connected" fair enough it isn't
Dial-up, Dialling locations and Internet connections all say "Catastrophic failure
Been like that since the beginning, it doesn't seem to affect anything and XP has been re-installed to try to
fix it with no success
Any ideas

It could just be that the hardware is not supported by
XP. When you ran the compatibility wizzard did it point
that out?

You may have hit the nail on the head with that, as I say, everything seems to work fine
Thank you for your help
It may have warned me of incompatabilities at the time but I can't honestly remember
