I usually just install the drivers only.

The Control Center seems to slow my Win2000 system.
Is there some good freeware out there that gives the same adjustment
options as CCC but aren't so cumbersome?

you want the normal control panel version of the drivers not the CCC
version, goto ati webby, it's on the front page, the CCC set is 29 meg or
so, the 'normal' control panel ones are 23 meg

i don't know why they still maintain the CCC set, it's not very popular
mind you i can't say much about the CCC set, i'v never used it mysql, and by
the sound, i don't want to either hehe

It doesn't answer your question but maybe this can help!

Follow the ATI Catalyst tweak guide at http://www.tweakguides.com

The idea behind this guide is to remove services and prevent the control
center to run at startup. It free up about 50mb of memory ressources at
startup. When you need the control center you just have to restart a
runtime. If you're like me and you don't use your control center very
often (you keep the same settings almost everytime), I thnik it's the
way to go.
