Okay I uninstalled 5.7 using the cat-uninstaller.exe, then installed the
5.9's and then my monitor got stuck at an extremely painful 60 hz.

On the monitor tab I tried selecting 85 hz (don't know why it won't let
me select higher as my monitor should be able to go to 100+), and on the
ATI Displays tab for the monitor I tried both having DDC Information
checked and unchecked, tried having the TV out enabled & disabled, and
still couldn't get anything other than 60hz. Then I tried changing
resolutions and now all resolutions can run at 85 hz.

BUT, like I said I should be able to go higher than 85, as my monitor
definitely supports it. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Thanks,

Adam

Reinstall your monitor. Same thing happens to me every time I install the
latest graphics driver. I end up with the "default" monitor not the Hansol
920D that I own.

Just don't use the refreshrate fix from ati drivers.
I use reforce.exe and this works great.
Now 1 important thing to know id this : after every uninstall and rteinstall
of new drivers, winxp adds another monitor in your registry.
So you end up with multiple entries and chances are your videodrivers pick
the wrong one.
I had this many times and have to search for the monitor drivers in
registry,or otherwise it's 60hz.
Ofcourse after deleting the entries, your monitor should be detected after
reboot and installed properly, now with reforce.exe you can specify for every
resolution which refreshrate you want.
It's because of this tool i noticed it showed multiple monitors of the same
one i have connected, and my system tripped over which monitor to take
resulting in the 60hz.
chances are you have the same with the ati drivers setting for this.

some monitors get correctly recognized by Windows and some dont - if yours
doesnt (like mine) then everytime you install a new driver you need to go
into display
properties > advanced > display - set up the maximum resolution and refresh
rate your
monitor will support and then go to the monitor panel and set the refresh
rate you want
to use.

detected by the videocard and sets this 85hz as max.
You can try different detection methods in the ati settings for your
monitor.
But i suspect your monitor just wont give in,i had this too with a 17inch
monitor that operated at 85hz at 1024x768.
For some reason the image became blurry forcing me to set it at 75hz. for
that resolution.
Have you looked in the desktop properties for your monitor settings?Does
windows show 85 as max?Or is it the ati control center that shows this?
