Catalyst 4.3 out!

How bl**dy typical, I had just 5 minutes ago installed the
4.2s!!!

I've decided to take the view of not bothering unless it
fixes something that's broken for me, or radically
improves/alters something for the better.

Having looked at the fixes, and improvements, no game I play
is affected & I can live without an extra 5-7% in 3dmarks
nature scene.

what card do you have? the new drivers might improve performance.

Download now..... =)

LOL, I'm so proud of myself...I stuck with the Catalyst 4.1 drivers and
skipped a driver set completely for the very first time (the 4.2's). And
guess what? My world didn't come to an end because of it. :-)

On the serious side though, I might decide to also skip the 4.3's because I
see in the release notes that it says that the Far Cry demo has display
corruption. I wonder if this will carry over to the release version. Maybe
I will wait for the 4.4 drivers to get released before updating. Right now
I'm making an effort to complete some of my existing games and don't see
myself buying anything new for the next little while. Therefore, I'm OK
with the 4.1's for now. Still, I commend ATI for their diligence in coming
out with new drivers on a regular basis.

Those Far Cry issues were before this new release. Research demo level
plays fine with the new updated driver.

Yea, but I seem to have lost ground using the Cat 4.2's. That's after
updating from the last pre-cat drivers for my Radeon 7200.

The FAR CRY DEMO issues are with version 4.3. They are working on a fix for
the next version.
So keep the 4.2 if your playing the Far Cry Demo.

I also did a Tombraider6 benchmark, and saw a roughly 6% increase in
scores there from earlier drivers. Very nice! Guess they are gearing up
for Doom3 !

That's something since the release notes for the 4.3 drivers do indicate
that there is display corruption with the Far Cry demo. Maybe it only
affects some users?

4.3 seems fine so far...

Bit of juggling to get it installed though (I think 4.2 uninstall didn't go
as it should have, the old "install-std-vga-first" problem which required
some manual cleaning) but once installed no problems.

Might give the Omegas a try, once they're released...haven't tried them in a
while (iirc 3.9 was the last time i used omegas)

Ps. Weird rotation options added, meant for people with weird displays I
guess...

I haven't been able confirm that my "install-std-vga-first" procedure is REALLY
running a VGA driver. I can't install the ATI drivers if I set "VGA mode" in the
"safe mode" boot procedure. Can you spell out exactly how you did your install?
Thanks in advance!

You and me Paul. Did the 4.2's Monday. Had it sitting in my downloads
pending folder and decided to go ahead. I am a Flight Sim user only and
didnt see much imp. with 4.2 and now 4.3 is here :-)

The Far Cry demo has corruption with the 4.1 as well (at least on my
machine). I hope they fix it, I'd really like that game.

Either that or wierd people with projectors hanging from roof. Anyway
rotation has always been *hidden* part of catalyst suit. :)

And always enabled in the Omegas...

I get Far Cry demo corruption (black block type effects on boulders mainly)
with 4.2 also.

9700Pro, but like I said I'm not overly concerned about a 6%
improvement, and whilst they state these are only things
they've noted and clearly don't test every game when updating
them, I'd be surprised if anything I do play sees a radical
improvement.

If it ain't broke then don't fix it.

Couple of scenarios to illlustrate my thought process:

Game X runs at 100FPS (keep maths easy is my motto) - 6%
improvement = 106FPS.

I am not really going to notice that.

Game Y runs at 15FPS (Come out of hiding Morrowind & your
damn overdraw in towns) = it isn't even going to improve to
16FPS.

Again I'm not going to spot the difference, and I should
point out I don't feel the need to sit here with the FPS
counter sat in the corner of my screen all the time.

The question I ask, especially after the NVidia 3dmark
expose, (and we all know ATI are as gilty of pulling dirty
tricks from time to time) is how did they achieve those
improvements?
