Should I use a CAT6 cable to connect my cablemodem to the WAN port on my
router, to allow gigabit ethernet? The cablemodem connection is only 10MBS
with my ISP, so I assume there is not advantage to cat6/gigabit?

Hi
You can use CAT6 if you want to. Technically it is not needed, CAT5e is
rated Giga too.
In addition, the Giga is on the LAN side of the Network.
