So they have broken HL2? All HL2 CS:S Benchmarks have no results listed.
Anyway going to see if my modded 5.4 version works *shrug* if so..

Well it works as good as 5.3 after testing.
It's a keeper, after adding all the tweaks to it..

I've always just downloaded these and installed them. Should I be
uninstalling the old ones first? If so, how? I know there's an uninstall
utility in the ATI folder...

I tried to install without uninstalling the Display Driver and the
Control Panel and the Catalyst Control center and I ran into problems.
I restored and then tried it again after I went into Control Panel
Add/Remove and I removed them. I tried the install again and this
time after everything was installed the system no longer complained.
I have not tested anything yet. I am glad that my text sizes are back
to what I had before installed Catalyst 5.3.

As for the MMC 9.06.1, for me it is worse than 9.06. On my TV Wonder
I can no longer surf the channels, record video or even take a
snapshot. I did not really use those feature much so I am not that
upset. Maybe the time has come to toss out my old TV Wonder.

I have been getting a strange problem lately if I just upgrade
ATI-drivers over previous ones. If done sone, after playing
a while, no matter what game, screen just freezes and turns
black. After few seconds it returns to the game and I can
play normally. Until it does it again and again and again...

First I thought it was an overheating issue, but completely
removing previous drivers with Driver Cleaner seemed to
discard this problem. Perhaps drivers crashed and VPU
recover was able to get them back online or something,
who knows...

Seems ATI does some very strange things with their drivers..
E.g. every time I boot Windows, right before the blue login
screen my monitor goes black and I get a 'no signal' display
for a few seconds. Never had this happen with any other
card/driver.. Matrox, Nvidia etc.

Glad I'm not the only one! I never knew this was related to anything.....
just figured it was my system 'in general'.

I've had the issue with the no signal since the mid 4.x's. It doesn't
always happen and there doesn't seem to be a patterm. It was alarming at
first but am use to it.
ATI 9700Pro is my card.

Well, apparently I was wrong. Thorough cleaning of
previous drivers didn't solve the black screen mystery
afterall that seems to occur in games if there are some
sudden high detail effects like explosions etc. happening.

This problem is only with the 5.x drivers, 4.12 is the
latest set I can use without such annoying black screen
glitches. Haven't tried out 5.4's yet, but I doubt they'll
fix this...

This loss of signal to the monitor has been apparent ever since I can
remember.... I bought my 9800 Pro during the mid 4.* catalyst drivers....
and have since moved to Omega's Drivers, which still feature this same
'problem'. It affects nothing but the seconds before my welcome screen
log-on thing, and I care not about it. I have no blacking out during games
or anything like that whatsoever. Although my monitor has been slowly dying
for the last 2 years, and every now and then blacks out before returning a
second or two later, with no indication of a loss of signal...... but that's
just my monitor, guaranteed.

And I _know_ this driver problem is making monitors die faster. It's
not good (esp. for a CRT) to have a power signal suddenly cut off and
on again every time a computer boots.

Also, new MMC 9.06.1 is out, to be used in conjuction with Cat 5.4's.

I installed the new MMC first (had some of the common problems with
9.06) and it caused my machine to do a hard-boot the first time I tried
to start up the TV.

Installed the new Catalyst drivers, and they're working fine, but now
the TV tuner isn't working at all.. doesn't even start up.

I thought that it was a feature of the "MultiSynch" in my NEC CRT (
which replaced my Viewsonic that all of a sudden went up in smoke!).

Oh boy, I better set up a savings account for monitors if this is
true! The Viewsonic originally had a NVidia card. Then I switched to
a Hercules Radeon 9700 Pro.

I can't believe this as I am still using a NEC 4D after more than 10
years. If the constant changing of resolutions was responsible for
monitor death it would have died a horrible death many years ago.

The most likely cause of excess monitor wear is excess degaussing.

My monitor degausses every time it is powered on, so I don't turn it
off. If the colours start to look squify (what does *that* mean!) I
degauss.

Mode switching is a normal part of a monitors operation - if it kills
your monitor, your monitor is crap.
