Anyone seen any performance improvement? The release notes do not mention much in the way of improvements or fixes in
this release. I see no reason to install, wait until next month.

Agreed. They don't fix anything I use and there is no claim of a
performance increase. This is a minor release fixing a few obsure issues.

Previous driver releases showed 3-10% improvements in certain games, but
only at low resolutions where the game is driver-bound. Not too useful one
way or the other.

What I'd really like to find is a tech site that not only tests the latest
ATI drivers, but also how they perform with different cards. Most of the
sites that I've seen are running near start of the art cards with high power
CPU's. I'd like to know what the new drivers do for older cards like my
9800Pro. I used to be a Nvidia buyer before I switched to ATI and I know
with the Nvidia drivers most of the driver improvements where for their
newest cards. In fact a lot of guys with older Nvidia cards still where
running drivers that where over a year old because any newer drivers didn't
effect there older cards.
But here in the ATI group it seems that more people change their drivers
even if they have older cards. Anyway I'm sticking with the 4.12's for now.
I'm almost done with HL2 and the little performance gain with the new
drivers doesn't seem to be enough to bother with. JLC

Rage3d has a couple of articles exactly like that at the top of the page
atm. HL2 gets a decent boost with these drivers at tweaktown

Just looked at tweaktown, dont think that \s the one i read earlier. there
was one testing the 9800pro, x800pro and the top cards (nvidia equivelants
too). Its out there...

Mike

The 9800Pro will hit its fillrate limit at a lower resolution /AA setting
than the X800. So, even assuming the HL2 optimizations are applicable to the
9800Pro, it won't be visible at the resolution most people play the game at.

Well I've always kept my ATI-driver up to date, even if I
only have a crappy 9600pro :-) At least never had any
problems with tv-out or games turning slower etc.

For being a crappy card, which is true, the 9600 Pro is waaay too expensive!
ATi fooled me once but wont have another chance (never ever) again.
I'll be back to Nvidia once my Ati dies on me..
