Just installed them and they (3.9) were a problem for me The computer booted
fine to begin with and the FS 2004 flickering problem seemed to have been
resolved, however after a couple of reboots after the Windows XP logo
appeared on the screen, the screen went blank, the computer rebooted and I
could only start into the safe mode and got the error:
"The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing
operation. The display driver for the 9600 series seems to be responsible
for the system instability" Report to MS?

Called ATI and was told to reinstall. I did a clean install (again) and the
same problems reappeared so I went back to 3.8 drivers and the flickering in
FS 2004. I just got this card and unless things improve within a few days I
will return it. Any suggestions for a good card with DVI connection?
Thanks

Yeah, too bad they don't fix most things wrong in 3.8 :(

Ran a 3dmark03 test, lost a few hundred points, down from 3617 to 3561,
that's actually a >2% difference so pfft. Didn't fix the problem with
the main unplayable game for me (SFC3) with the 3.8s.

What kind of problems are you experiencing in SFC3?

Radeon 9500 and up cards with 3.8 and up drivers, no weapons effects, no
shield effects, no shield tactical overlay and other tactical overlays.
The overlays and shields actually do show up sometimes but they're
completely screwed up prismatic multi-color instead of how they're
supposed to look.

And it crashes with my 9600 Pro via the hardware cursor bug that appears
in a few other games, notably Neverwinter Nights. Turning on fast
writes is supposed to fix this but I still got a crash today, there's
also a way to turn it off in the SFC.ini, but if the graphics are screwy
worrying about fixing anything else is not on the top of my list. And
a couple of other games that I'm probably playing much more often than
SFC3, do seem to work better with the 3.8/9 than with the 3.7s so
unfortunately I'll stick with the new ones.
Doesn't keep me from being miffed.

Just as a test I just reinstalled my old ATI card (8500) and the problems
went away. Do you think that the 9600Pro is defective? This is strange
because I did not have the problem with the 3.8 drivers only with the 3.9.
The problems I had with the 3.8 and the 9600 were in FS 2004 with
flickering. The 3.9 drivers fixed it but the computer was crashing! Any help
would be welcomed.

I think my problem's with how to compose a cogent news post. Threw the
numbers into the calculator, new the difference was only 50 yet wrote it
anyway.
Guess I'm used to my old 5 digit results from 3dMark01, or I'm getting
used to the 5 digit marks from Aquamark and just added an extra tens
place on to the 3Mark03 score, somewhere in my head.
Odd how the brain works sometimes.

The 3.7 drivers have a lot less overall problems than the last two
driver sets. So I'd try using those with the 9600 before deciding the
cards defective.
If I end up buying Call of Duty any time soon, I'll surely end up going
back to the 3.7 drivers.
