I went from the Cat 3.8s to 3.9 and Microsoft FS 2004 stopped working.
Error = "MS Windows detected and recovered from a device failure. Save your
work and reboot to restore functionality." The error occurred after the FS
splash screen. It appeared that FS was trying to load in the 50 color mode.
When I three fingered back to the desktop I was in the 256 color mode.
Numerous reboots and re-install of FS 2004 to no avail. Removed the Cat
3.9s and reinstalled FS 2004 and all is well. Anyone else have this
problem?

Interesting. The 3.9's solved all the problems I had with fs2004. I did
notice however that when I first loaded FS after installing the 3.9's, that
FS reindexed all of the scenery files. After that it ran like a charm. In
fact I saw scenery like I never saw it before. For me the 3.9's on my 9800
flashed pro brought FS2004 out to where it should be. Could be that your
problem occured when FS failed to reindex the files. Check the installation
of your drivers, then your resolution and refresh rate; and if that doesn't
fix it, try reinstalling FS.

3.9 drivers crash the entire system every time i fly FS2004 (but not
on loading); on loading, scenery flickers badly

Sounds like you have a bad installation of the drivers, or perhaps they were
corrupted when you downloaded them.

Hi John,
Thanks for the tips. Installing FS9 is agonizingly slow on my system
(P3-600MHz Coppermine) so I think I'll just hang in there with the 3.8s
until the 4.0s appear :)

Yep had the same problem with 3.9 drivers, would get somewhere between
takeoff roll and 1000 ft and it would lock hard, not the 3 finger salute
tyoe either, have to use the reset button. Went back to 3.8 and it's okay,
but still has that annoying flashing of the splash screen when it's loading.
Also my unlock window options are greyed out on the radio stack, GPS etc,
anybody get this function to work. I have two screens and would like to put
the GPS and Radio stack on it's on screen.
