castom formula

I have to compare % of sales and i would like to be able to higlight in red
the one below a certan pre selected %. if in cell 1a i have the percentage
that is generated by other formulas how can i compare the others to that
particular one (that constantly changes..) and higlight in red the ones below
it?

Use conditional formatting (Format>Conditional Formatting) with a formula of
say

=A2<$A$1
 
Hi,

I'm not clear on exactly what you mean by the "ones below it" Do you mean
the physical location or do you mean values lower than the preset value. For
the second here is the technique in 2003 and 2007 assuming A2 is the top left
cell you want to format

In 2003:
1. Select the cells you want to format
2. Choose Format, Conditional Formatting
3. Choose Formula is from the first drop down
4. In the second box enter the formula:
=$A$1>A2
5. Click the Format button
6. Choose a color on the Patterns tab (or any available option)
7. Click OK twice.

In 2007:
1. Highlight all the cells on the rows you want formatted
2. Choose Home, Conditional Formatting, New Rule
3. Choose Use a formula to determine which cell to format
4. In the Format values where this formula is true enter the following
formula:
=$A$1>A2
5. Click the Format button and choose a format.
6. Click OK twice
