Case of the missing Ram !

just show me the money!

I have just upgraded my old pc with another 256k of ram,when I boot
the bios reports as it should 524288k of installed ram,then after the
os has loaded in this case xp home (sp2) if I look at taskmanager it
reports 523828k of ram where is the missing 460K ? and does it matter?

Open Control Panel - System (General tab) and see what is being
reported for RAM in the bottom section of the Window.

That is usually the most accurate report of total RAM from Windows.
